Khadad Print Design | Illustration 'Khadad' in Marathi means a person who loves to eat. In this project, I developed prints taking inspiration from the rich and vibrant street food culture of India which aim to remind us how the snacking culture renders energy to our streets and how it is a celebration in itself.
Snacking culture in India, whether it is the streets, our homes or festivals- is extremely elaborate, vivid and complex. One of the steps towards preserving these food trails, and in a broader sense contributing to our local economy, is obviously, eating and buying local. I wonder if this culture would be perishable with coming generations, when the McDonaldisation of food is peddled as a sign of modernity and prosperity. Will the stride of globalisation, and ultimately multinationalised, Industrialised food wipe out the flavour from our streets?
